This leads many speakers to make use of statistics in their presentations. It is an intuitive decision. The facts and numbers one discovered during their research may have been the very pieces of information that led to the development of their viewpoint in the first place. The discovery of trends, the startling revelations revealed in a statistical report and the recognition of a problem as revealed by numbers can be the very evidence upon which a claim is built.

START WITH AN IDEA: When you start writing a manuscript and an idea pops into your head [for me] it is an annoying buzzing that will not quit. It takes over my thoughts until I either dictate into a tape recorder or go directly to my computer and start typing. Immediately, my head stops buzzing and I can concentrate on other matters.

Many new writers are deathly afraid of rejection. A rejection letter, they fear, means that they are somehow not talented, or not suited to be a writer, or that they don’t have the “connections” to make it into print.

There is one key difference between reports and most other forms of business writing, and we get a hint of that in the word, "report." Whereas with many other forms of written comms you can be a little creative and put your own slant on your words, in a report you must not. Not in theory, anyway.

Are you crazy? If you're shaking your head yes, smiling to yourself or laughing aloud, honestly wondering when you will stop talking to the walls in your office on those days that you stare at a blank computer screen for hours hopelessly trying to find a flawless opening sentence for a perfect beginning or a clever combination of words to carry you to the ultimate ending of your work in progress - You're definitely already a writer by my definition...
